Angel 5.15 "A Hole in the World"
I haven't reviewed an episode since 5.9 "Harm's Way", but rather than start at "Soul Purpose" where I left off, I'll start in the now with 5.15 and work my way backwards during that empty time in March when no Angel episodes will air.
First off, I agree with all of you that the WB is moronic because of their Angel-cancellation ways. Argh.
Second, Andrew being my favorite character, you know what my favorite ep. was lately, no need to become a drooling Andrew fan just now.
Just heartbreaking. When Fred couldn't remember her that Feigenbaum (named after a physicist big into chaos theory. hmmmm) was the name of her rabbit, I just felt so awful -- it reminded me of my mom's dementia and memory loss. Sickening. And the way Fred pushed Wesley away as she turned into Evil -- my stomach dropped out.
But the funny bits of the ep. were true Joss and quite appreciated, not the mention the hand-holding slashiness and the crotch-exposing come-fuck-me thing Spike did for Angel on that chair.
HOWEVER, and this is a big however, the almost anti-feminist thing going on here is really irking me. Cordelia was evil for a lot of S4, Jasmine was evil, Eve-il, Harmony, vamp w/ no soul kinda evil, now Fred turns into an Evil, WHAT THE F??? Does one need a Y chromosome to be on the side of good now? Eh? It's almost as if 'Chosen' never happened. There is not a single female character left on Angel now. Come on. We need Faith, Buffy, Willow, more new slayers, etc. to come into to town and shake them all up. Or someone. Andrew is practically a girl. ;-)
I am not without hope that this will be reversed or lessened in some measure, but I cannot ever let myself forget that a feminist man is still just a man, no matter how great his writing and directing may be.
Sorry, do I sound like a man-hating dyke? Cuz I ain't feeling too far from that, in terms of the way this season is shaping up.
