Triboro Cinema

Has anyone been to the North Attleboro, MA Triboro Cinema lately on a weekend? How busy is it?

We went on a weekday, and it was completely dead. No one at the popcorn counter, no movie-goers at all except for us and one other group of three people. Five people plus the ticket counter person in the entire theatre! Holy cow. Now, I know that things are typically dead on weekday nights, but not that dead. I mean, it was DEAD. And it smelled bad.

Has Providence Place Mall put Triboro on the road to being out of business? Just a few years ago, it was hopping, even on weekday nights. Or has Netflix killed movie-going in general? Not that I ever adored the Triboro or anything, but it is just sad to see that a chunk of Massachusetts and RI will probably soon have no nearby theatre. Especially with the ongoing bridge and road work on I-95 Southbound between Exit 5 and Providence, it's a bet that some Attleboro residents can't even be bothered to drive to Providence to see a movie.

And don't get me started on the issues with the Avon and the Cable Car. It seems they just don't show as many films, or as many newly released indie films as they used to. I mean, why do they keep re-running old hits instead of getting in new indie flicks? Dr. Strangelove and The Full Monty *again*? I like those movies, but really, I thought the Avon/Cable Car misson was to continue pushing interesting new indie content. And the Avon's owner recently let his next door business go out of business (College Hill Bookstore), so there's nowhere to go after a late movie anymore, and one more indie bookstore has bitten the dust.
