Basic screencaps & 100x100 crops I just did from my Maurice DVD. Feel free to take (with credit), modify, etc. Please leave a comment if you plan to take, use, credit. :-)
Any suggestions on which one I should use, and what words I should add, if any?
Thanks, they are beautiful boys. I don't think it was that sad. It ended happily, subversively (class-wise especially). Another Country (my current icon, yes) was sadder. That's why I want a Maurice icon, to offset the AC one.
Seriously, which one or ones plural did you like best?
Of course I like the naked men in bed icons. Always, the naked men are my favorites.
It was sad that Maurice's first lover (Hugh Grant) couldn't be honest and live his life honestly, but Maurice did find a beautiful young lover, even though he had to find a lower class guy. At least the guy wasn't afraid to love him. I was so worried he wasn't going to show up at the ship at the end.
It was happy that he found love and sad that Hugh Grant's character chose to live a lie.
Oh, and I like the middle ones on the 1st and 2nd row, and the 3rd one on the 4th row the best. Besides all the naked ones. Actually I really like the ones with the guys kneeling on the bed hugging each other in their bed clothes.
Yes. Those are the ones. I need to rent this movie again. Does it hold up?
You know a movie that's very sexy and shows a lot of nakedness is Stealing Heaven. That's the story of the love between Abelard and Eloise. I'm not even sure I'm spelling their names right.
My mother and I were watching that at home and my dad walked in and said, "Oh my, is that some business on that guy or what?" The guy playing Abelard displayed full-frontal nudity. My mother and I died laughing. Interestingly, he didn't say anything about naked Eloise.
The reason I felt bad for him ending up with a guy from a lower or different class is that they have little in common except their love for each other, and that cannot always sustain you, in my opnion. Maurice would either have to give up his standing, as they were doing, or endure the ridicule of his mate by the people of his society, and that can wear down a relationship, no matter how strong you try to be. I guess I should read Forster's autobiography to see how things really turned out for him. In the time he was living, probably not very well.
Considering being publicly condemned and imprisoned, I can empathize with Hugh Grant's character. The strange thing was that he was the hot pursuer for so long. He made Maurice overcome his fears and doubts and then let himself be overwhelmed with his own.
The world sucks sometimes, but not every part of it. It just sucks that people can't be who they are.
No, I see what you mean now. They don't have a lot in common, but I think we are supposed to have faith that their love was so great that it transcended that.
As for Hugh Grant, you are right, it's ironic that he started out the pursuer. I suppose they were all quite afraid, with the fairly recent shadow of what happened to Oscar Wilde hanging over them (condemnation, imprisonment, loss of career and health, hard labor).
I hope the world gets better soon, because in this Bush climate, things don't always feel safe enough for everyone to be who they are.
