How not to Save Your Favorite TV Show
Mar. 13th, 2008 09:33 pmDenis McGrath's essay on things to avoid when trying to save your favorite TV show is very interesting. The "Don't Send Crap" rule is especially interesting. I do wonder why the "send pencils" thing was nevertheless one of the main tactics fans used to support the WGA -- even the writers supported this idea, and if it were a bad idea as Denis says it is, you'd think the WGA would know this as well.
He's definitely right about the need not to send hate mail. Saying "we hate your network" will not help in any way. Saying "we like the show because of X, Y and Z rational reasons that make sense to network executives" works much better.
