Movie To See: Girls Will Be Girls

chickenYou people MUST see this film! Girls Will Be Girls.
That is, if you are at all a fan of the outrageous John Waters style of queer comedy. This is not a Waters film, but it feels like one.
Some movies (like, say, the dreadful Pumpkin) don't go far enough over the edge, so they are painful instead of funny. To be really funny and truly outrageous, a filmmaker often needs to go so far past good taste as to offend even the most jaded fag.
Anyway, that's how I feel about queer cinema these days.
This film does an admirable job of making one (or at least me) laugh with disbelieving horror at the insane, oh-my-god shit that went down.
Having Coco Peru (that notorious of famous drag queens! See Trick) in the film really helped ratchet the thing up a notch.
Some Buffy fans may be very surprised by the drag persona - Evie! - of our own Deputy Mayor, Alan Finch Jack Plotnick. Others will recognize him from a million little "Stereotypical Fag" roles like Down With Love and Say It Isn't So.
And Varla/Marla will be recognizable to any Wigstock fan.
