More vanity press wank
Mar. 15th, 2005 03:51 pmRemember the whole science fiction authors sting vanity press amusement (in which a group of professional writers banded together to write the worst novel ever, and got it accepted by PublishAmerica, all in a bid to prove PublishAmerica are liars when they claim to be a "traditional publisher" rather than a vanity press)??
Well, today someone at work passed along this gem, about a group of so-called "conference organizers" who will accept the most ludicrous papers, all to bilk you of your $390 "fee". The conferences are run by a non-existent organization (the 'International Institute of Informatics and Systemics') which serves as a front for what is basically a vanity press for conference proceedings -- send them your paper plus $390 (plus an extra $75 per page for papers over six pages) and it will be "accepted" and "published."

Terribly amusing, in a horrifying sort of way.
