Edward Norton is one of my favorite actors, and he was as good as ever in this film. (Even though the actual film was kinda depressing).

However, Spike Lee annoys me more and more. Some of the writing is too self-consciously pedantic and preachy, like the whole mirror monologue. Please get over yourself, Spike.

I really liked 25th Hour. I thought that Norton was incredible, and the whole thing just kind of broke my heart.

I, too, could have done without the mirror monologue, but mostly because it was just Spike Lee ripping himself off in a not-updated-enough-to-justify-its-inclusion kind of way. It was too self-conscious, and not all that enlightening, nor did it really add much to the film.

Yep, yep, and yep.

I wanted to write a blazing review of it but I got in a car accident that very same night so that review (as well as the one for Chicago) never got written.

I cried so hard at the end with the "beat me up" scene.

I agree with both of you, that scene was really difficult and sad.
