Is it too geeky that I dislike Micro$oft Word attachments, or that I am nearly alone in preferring plain text when asked to Beta someone's fanfic? Or that I myself write my own fic. (and in fact, everything) in a text editor like Emacs or BBEdit?

I prefer to beta with Word because of the track changes feature. But that's just me and my machine which seems agreeable with Word.

But if I'm sending anything to a beta, I prefer that they tell me their preferences for betaing. Otherwise, I'll probably just send it in Word.

Each to his or her own. And if someone wants me to send MS Word, I will, you are right, the beta's prefs should be honored (same in the other direction, see?) But I do hate it when people post what they THINK is plain text to a yahoo group and it has lots of nasty Word-generated funky characters that don't display because they aren't ASCII. Grrrr.
