I just lost another interview because I don't already live down there. Can't they see the horrible Catch-22 of it all? I can't get a job because I don't yet live down there, but I can't move down there until I get a job! ARGH!!!@!!!!!!

Ah, yes, I know that one well. :-(

Where are you thinking about moving?

As I have previous posted, we are moving to Orlando.

Ah, that's what I get for not memorizing all of my flist's posts. Sorry. :-)

Hey, hon. So sorry for the frustration!

Not to say you are doing anything wrong, but can I help with your cover letter? Generally, if you tell folks that you ARE moving, that helps. If you say you might move, they get all freaked out that you are going to ask for expenses.

And sorry if this is intrusive. I've had several folks on my LJ lately offer intrusive advice, and it pissed me off, so if I did this, I'm sorry.

Oh, he knew, and they all know, that I am moving. They are all VERY nice about it at first, until they "get a flood of more local applications over the weekend". Trust me, it's the first thing I tell them, and they always say it isn't a problem at all. It's the about-face that gets me.

P.S., you aren't being intrusive. I appreciate your feedback, actually, very much.

And also, I even told this guy right up front, very first, that moving expenses are very negotiable. To him, it was more that he wants someone to start absolutely ASAP, not in two weeks, but right away.

Ugh. How frustrating.

Hopefully, a more understanding and flexible employer will come along soon.

I do hope so. I need to get out of this depressed mood really soon. I know it isn't personal, it's just business.

If you have family down there already, is there any way you can move down there in a temporary fashion, and then look for a job? I know it would be unfun and uncomfortable to crash in someone else's house, but... would it be possible?

It would be possible, but I don't think they would like it much.

Awwwww. That's ridiculous. So it wouldn't even help if you went down there for a couple of weeks and pretended to already live there? :thinking sneaky thoughts:

I thought of that, but I don't have the financial or temporal resources for that kind of thing. :-(

Dood, that sucks. Maybe they need assurance. Are they expecting to have to pay your moving costs or vice versa from your perspective?

I tell most of them that the moving costs are negotiable -- if they aren't willing to pay them, then I and/or my relatives will do so. So it isn't that. It's more like they want someone to start yesterday, not two-three weeks from now.
