Is it a coincidence that Russell T. Davies used the surname "Tyler" on both "Queer As Folk" (for Vince and his mom) and on "Doctor Who" (for Rose and her mum)? Why is is so enamored of that as a character name? Are Vince and Rose secretly, distantly related? ;-)

Also, I just realized belatedly, six years after everyone else already realized it, how incredibly auto-biographical "Queer As Folk" really is. I mean, what with Vince/Russell being such enormous fans of Doctor Who. Hmmm!

Dunno, but I did hear it claimed that the name "Sam Tyler" for the time-traveling protagonist of "Life on Mars" was a coincidence.

...though the Wikipedia article now says different: it claims that the character was named by co-creator Matthew Graham's daughter, who named him after Rose Tyler without her father's knowledge.

Yes, that has to be a coincidence, albeit an interesting one. I'm beginning to think "Tyler" is as frequently-occurring a name as "Smith" or "Jones".
