Our Pyewacket is turning out to be a lovely longhair like Pearl. I agree, the hair between the toes is too pretty to cut. Maybe people do it for cats who go outdoors and it gets all dirty and crusty?
Both my cat and the one I know (my brother-in-law's cat) who gets the fur trimmed are inside cats, they never go outside. So that's not it. I think he trims her fur to make it easier to see and clip her claws, maybe.
Pyewacket is an excellent cat name! I swear, you will find that once you go longhair, you can't go back! Shorthairs just don't seem soft enough anymore. Although, the furballs can be worse with longhairs.
