Famous playwright and director David Mamet has signed on to write the screenplay for a film based on the life of our notorious ex-Mayor, Buddy Cianci.

The screenplay will be based on Providence Journal reporter Mike Stanton's bestselling book The Prince of Providence: The True Story of Buddy Cianci, America’s Most Notorious Mayor, Some Wiseguys, and the Feds.

Pawtucket, RI born director Michael Corrente will direct.

I love that when Providence gets famous, it's usually for something dodgy and sensationalistic like a corrupt Mafia-connected ex-Mayor.

Nothing quite this appalling ever happened where I grew up. *snort*

Go see Saved!, the satire about Christian youth subculture, high school life, etc.

Saved! stars Jena Malone, Mandy Moore, Macaulay Culkin, Heather Matarazzo, Eva Amurri, Martin Donovan, and Mary-Louise Parker among others.

The gay storyline, pregnant Christian storyline, and hypocritical Christian pastor storyline, these are all pretty funny and/or touching, and well done.

Also, there are lots of one-line jokes and double entendres of note.

I heard on NPR that the cast did a lot of research by going to Christian rock concerts and similar events and talking to the kids there and finding out how they talk, dress, interact so as to get the cultural vibe right. McCaulay Culkin said a lot of the kids just *assumed* he had 'converted' and been 'saved' and they were all 'right on!' and 'welcome!' and stuff.

There were four really interesting previews: )
