1. Last night on the way from the office to the Metro, I walked past a brand new double row of port-a-potties. This makes me glad I've decided not to attend the inauguration.

2. Today is the coldest day so far this year. They said it was 8 degrees Fahrenheit. Brrrr.

3. Have you tried adding golden roasted flax seeds to food? Yum. The aroma alone is amazing.

4. Battlestar tonight. I miss Stargate already, but this should certainly be interesting.

5. I am so weak that cute overload slays me. Little tiny hands, little tiny carrot.

What kind of food have you been adding the flax seeds to?

It's best on steel-cut oats, mmmm. But good on just about anything, quinoa, brown rice, etc. Also, I found some hemp seed (at a local vegetarian/organic market not far from the capitol, on Pennsylvania Ave SE). Now, hemp seed is fantastic on all those same foods but also in/on stew and soups, wow.

Also, almost any seed of this kind is good on stir fries. I made a vegetarian stir fry the other day and added both sesame and hemp seeds and a small bit of flax as well, very nice indeed.

It is dreadfully cold today. Minus 10 degrees F this morning when we woke up.

I put roasted flax meal in the bread I bake since it's supposed to be so good for you!

Can't wait for more BSG. About time, don't you think?

Wow, it is always colder up there than here. I still miss Florida weather though.

Putting flax in bread is a great idea! Do you make white, whole wheat, sourdough ... ?

BSG was great. I loved the intense flashbacks-of-2000-years-ago. That was nifty.

I always make the same thing, for sandwich bread -- it's a mixture of about 2/3 whole wheat and 1/3 white. I've tried making 100% whole wheat but it's so dense the kids (and us) don't really like it. It's bread machine bread so maybe that makes a difference.
