Gay Marriage
Feb. 12th, 2004 11:49 amA local TV station has a poll. "Should gay couples be allowed to marry?"
So far the stats are running close, 43% say "yes, no reason gay people should be stopped from marrying", 39% say no, homosexuality is wrong", and 14% say "I have nothing against homosexuality per se, but marriage should be defined as being between one man and one woman".
Argh. What the f, that last one makes so sense at all.
Anyway, vote if you want. They probably only have it until 6 pm EST or whenever they do the newscast.
Also if people think my icon is too spoilery, please slap me down for using it. It doesn't seem too too spoilery to me, and only a whole lot GIP-ish. ;-)

I do know a woman whose sister, back in the 80s, thought gay people were a sort of urban legend. INSANE.
Again, people need to spend time and energy fighting alcoholism or child abuse, not gay couples wanting to marry. Sheesh.

Date: 2004-02-12 06:26 pm (UTC)As for that last poll option, I've honestly seen people proclaim a similar viewpoint, and it boggles my mind, too. I saw some random rant somewhere that concluded that if marriage were to be extended beyond one man and one woman, the world would lose its sense of inherent right and wrong. Guy's apparently not living in the pomo/post-structuralist world that I am. People are using this as a jumping-off point to express their anger about so many other things.

We just got our first Firefly DVD from Netflix. The DVD commentary about the chicken really made me laugh, like Joss was somehow seeing into my Chicken-y mind. Plus, "Boreanaz is afraid of chickens!" Hahaha.

I adore Firefly. Boreanaz is a true nut, and I mean that in the best of ways.

Date: 2004-02-13 03:22 pm (UTC)I watched some of discs 1 and 2 last night. The main ep. I haven't ever seen is the ballet one, and I am trying really hard to keep myself from skipping ahead.
Next week's Angel, though, looks to be absolutely hilarious.

Of course the "God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve" morons are even more ... moronic.

Date: 2004-02-12 09:50 pm (UTC)I saw a pre-teen girl holding up an "Adam and Steve" sign on some of the TV coverage of the protests at the State house. That old chestnut seems to be making it down through the generations, unfortunately.
