Gathering, shindig, hootenanny.
The title is Jane's shout-out to Oz & "Dead Man's Party", right?
I like that Mal is incapable of abiding a Gathering, but must invariably transform it into a Shindig or Hootenanny simply with the power of his twitchy punching instincts.
Since I am such a Jane Espenson fan, I invariably loved this episode; along with "Our Mrs. Reynolds" it is my favorite so far (I am almost done with disc 2).
"Captain Tightpants", what a classic.
Finally, I love that Joss and Co. love the bar fights. Not on Buffy, Angel, or Firefly could ya get by without one. Or two. Or more. Poor Lorneytoons.

Date: 2004-03-25 06:53 pm (UTC)I read the hoot and nanny reference as an Oz shout-out, too.
Two of my favorite episodes are on disc 3 -- "War Stories" brings the funny (I heart Wash). "Out of Gas" is such sheer fabulousness; I remember thinking when I watched it when it aired that I couldn't believe how much I already cared about these characters, so it really worked for me. "The Message" is great, too.
Sigh. How much longer until the movie?

Ask, and ye shall receive. Or, you can just take it. :-)
Really I can make you some icons if you want, including any text you want on top or whatever (except not for S6 or S7 Buffy or S4 or S5 Angel cuz I don't have the DVDs for those yet).
Now I am looking forward to Disc 3 to arrive from Netflix. I only have Jaynestown left to watch on this disc 2.
We will know when the movie arrives by watching Whedonesque like hawks. IMDB says "2005", which is far too vague.
