Windows users, security is Now!!

Why Windows users may be inadvertently enabling LJ's problems.

If you are a Windows user, do as the man says -- install Spybot Search & Destroy, AdAware, ZoneAlarm, etc. And try to use Firefox instead of IE when you can.

I know people have been repeating this warning ad nauseum in every security forum on the planet for the last zillion months, but it bears repeating simply because a lot of people aren't really hooked into security awareness.

And OS X users, you don't get off scott free either. Be sure to turn on your Firewall (System Prefs->Sharing->Firewall tab).

People using any OS (OS X, Linux, Windows) should also install an Anti-Virus program.

Actually, I use Opera at work a lot, since it is mostly the best at doing odd Unicode, such as Sanskrit/Devanagari (Safari is better at some things, but mostly Opera rules).

We have AdAware, ZoneAlarm, McAfee (with the updates set to download automatically), BHODemon, Secure IE, the security settings set to HIGH....

and we're still switching to Firefox, at the insistence of the spousal overunit (programmer who saw some horrifying news stories about IE security). Hooooo boy.

On the upside: oooh! Firefox themes! Shiny!
