No More Tacos

So last night I started to choke on a piece of hard taco shell. It got all horizontally wedged in my throat, all sharp and pokey. I panicked. Later, when I could breathe normally again, I went to the emergency room to make sure I hadn't scraped an infectable gash in my throat. Aaaah! What am I, five? I still don't know how to chew and swallow? I am not letting myself every have tortilla chips, taco shells, or the like EVER, EVER AGAIN. Bad, bad chicken.

But the nice thing is, the doctor had a great bedside manner. You just don't run across doctors with good, calming, non-condescending bedside manners much.

I have some Mexican food cookbook in which the author contends that some people are put off Mexican food (or maybe it's just tacos) by those crispy shells. Although I think she had more in mind their tendency to crack and dump taco filling all over your hand rather than their danger as a choking hazard.

I adore them, taste-wise, and don't mind the spilling. I just tend to eat them too quickly without chewing enough. Bad me. :-)
