Some "Alias" Questions

I've only watched the first two or three eps of season three, and am already massively confused.

Questions for those more in the know:

1.) Jack gives Sydney a bunch of tests to make sure she's not still under the influence of any brainwashing techniques. Now why didn't the CIA itself do that? Wouldn't it be in their interest to debrief and test her before sending her out in the field again?

2.) When Vaughn first returns, they make this big deal about how he has to be re-field-rated so he's just an analyst for now. Why didn't the same thing happen to Syd?? (Surely she's even less field-ratable than he is. It makes NO SENSE.)

3.) There's nothing secure about the network protocol instant messaging uses. Why in heaven's name are Jack and Irina using it? (Stupid, stupid.)

4.) Will it hurt my enjoyment of this season that I already know who Lauren really is?

5.) Could Marshall and Carrie possibly be cuter?

All excellent points. As for knowing who Lauren is, I didn't see the season until it came out on dvd, so I knew by then who she was as well. I didn't seem to hurt my enjoyment any, although I would have preferred to have been non-spoiled.

Thanks. I was hoping someone would tell me that J.J. actually did these things on purpose, but clearly he just fumbled the ball.
