More vanity press wank

Remember the whole science fiction authors sting vanity press amusement (in which a group of professional writers banded together to write the worst novel ever, and got it accepted by PublishAmerica, all in a bid to prove PublishAmerica are liars when they claim to be a "traditional publisher" rather than a vanity press)??

Well, today someone at work passed along this gem, about a group of so-called "conference organizers" who will accept the most ludicrous papers, all to bilk you of your $390 "fee". The conferences are run by a non-existent organization (the 'International Institute of Informatics and Systemics') which serves as a front for what is basically a vanity press for conference proceedings -- send them your paper plus $390 (plus an extra $75 per page for papers over six pages) and it will be "accepted" and "published."

Terribly amusing, in a horrifying sort of way.

Kinda scared actually. Cuz you know, some guy named Joe Bob out in the backwoods of Arkansas (might even happen to live next door to my relatives) is thinkin' it's actually a good idea to make money.
