When you are packing to move, do you ever reach the point of exhaustion at which you just want to throw up your hands and burn it all? The point at which your worldly possessions start to see more like an albatross around your neck than anything remotely precious? Where you just want to grab the cats and the Whedon DVDs and just run?

We packed ten boxes last night, and did a whole bunch of laundry, but it all just feels like the futile tip of the iceberg even after having done this same thing almost every night for the last week. There are only eight packing days left!

The good news is that we are done painting the new bathroom and bedroom (pink and yellow respectively -- we are such GIRLS). All that's left painting-wise is three more days of toil on the dining room (which will be primed and then painted a nice Peachy color).

I sometimes feel that way about my stuff even without the moving it around part.

I do, too -- sometimes I just want to be a minimalist. Other times, I hug my stuff to my chest. It's a see-saw.

I adore your icon -- are those your cats? That is SO cute.

Those are my cats. They are not bonding in the picture. The tabby wants to sit where the black and white is. FOR NO APPARENT REASON and she's leaning over to whisper threats to him.

Oh, I felt that way at least once a day during the process, and I'm ruthlessly anti-clutter. We probably have a lot less stuff than most people, and I still wanted to tear my hair out on repeated occasions.

That's the thing -- over the years I have chucked just tons of boxes of crap into the trash/recycle bins, so I feel "lighter" than I have before any other preceding move. It's nice, but it's shocking how much is still left in spite of that. What a nicely appropriate icon you have there!

Have you ever heard three moves equal a fire??

I have lived in the same apartment for 8 years, and I have accumlated so much *stuff* even though I rarely shop at all, that I can't stand the thought of packing it up and moving. Anyway, I don't need to because the rent is reasonable, and it's in a good area.

Are you painting your new or old place? Did you buy a new house? Move to Mass?

Aren't I nosy?

Are you painting your new or old place?

New.

Did you buy a new house?

No! We won't qualify for that, for several more years. Just an apartment (with a gay landlord who lives on the first floor - wonderful).

Move to Mass?

Yes. Legal!Married! Even if it is bloody expensive, it's worth it.

i'm right there with you. except that i'm not moving any furniture AND i can leave stuff behind and get it later, which i'm assuming is a luxury you don't have.

but when i first moved out, i basically did the grab the cds (dvds were yet uncommon), and my clothes (i didn't even have a computer then) and run.

then somehow, i ended up with all this stuff. and even tho i've lived without the majority of it for three years, it's all become VERY necessary again. not to mention all the new stuff accumulated DURING the last three years, in my bedroom alone.

Correct. I've had that luxury before and liked it, but not this time. However, since the new landlord gave us keys around the first of April, we've had a whole month of access to the place to paint and move in little dribblets of things. So that makes up for it.

in my bedroom alone

I know -- it's as if the bedroom or apartment is a Tardis and can somehow fit much more stuff into it than it ought to!

Do you feel like all the hard work of moving has been worth it?

When I was home a few weeks ago to finish packing up the house the 'accidental arson' *wink wink, nudge nudge* jokes were flying fast and furious.

Moving is the best way to desentimentalize anything.

*feels your pain*

Thanks. You and your accidental arson, haha!

Nice icon, BTW.

Yes, I have known that "burn it all" feeling. And now, after living in this house for 7+ years, the thought of moving fills me with dread. I told H we're not moving till we retire! :)

Good luck with the move!

You are so smart -- if you wait until you retire, you will be old and can press younger folks into helping you. You can be all, "pick that one up so I can see your cute butt, young whipper-snapper!" ;-)

I adore your spring icon!
