Feb. 27th, 2007 01:11 pmSadly, this episode was fairly predictable and fairly heavy-handed. I was a bit disappointed.
I'd have expected better from Jane Espenson, because I am usually a big fan of her writing. After seeing the episode I told myself, "oh, all the parts I didn't like must have been down to the other writer" since she co-wrote it. But then in her blog entry today she described writing exactly one of the scenes I didn't like. Darn.
I really enjoyed the food shortage episode she wrote earlier in the season. But you know what might be really interesting, is to see her pen a very, very Cylon-centric episode. That could be really great.
Wow, the backstory is very interesting. I don't know if I agree that using B&W is the best way to signal "flashback" but the story is so good it doesn't really matter. Eccleston and Takei and rooftops, oh my. And little Hiro! This is my favorite show on TV right now.
My Bunny says it looks like Eric Roberts has had some plastic surgery, and I have to agree. It doesn't suit him -- he actually kind of looks like a Romulan, especially with that hair he had in the flashbacks.

Date: 2007-02-27 08:09 pm (UTC)And it would be a great way to end the series. I mean, the humans were playing god when they invented Cylons, and now Cylons are making new Cylons, and all of them, human and Cylon alike, have cruel genocidal streaks, so in the end they all start to look too much alike, morally. So if they really all turned out to be the same, that would be very interesting.
Also, I can't figure out how Boomer/Sharon was able to come back exactly as the self who loves Helo that last time she downloaded.
I think this is the same as the way Lucy Lawless' character had some stronger personalities in some rebirths than others. It's all "mystical" and stuff -- but it does lend credence to my boss' theory. Because if Cylons can retain that indefinable "personality" across rebirths (how Buddhist!), something that is traditionally seen as a very human trait, then it starts to look like maybe the humans and Cylons really aren't so different from one another.
Also, I knew that awful thing was going to happen this episode and I left the room because I didn't want to see it. I thought I'd been gone long enough to miss it, and I walked back in right when we all got to see that awful thing.
Which awful thing? There were several awful things, all of them very predictable, that happened in this episode. Are you talking about the thing that happened in the Tylium production line?
