On the way to D.C.!

Today I gave my formal two weeks of notice at my job, accepted the new job in D.C., and am getting on a plane on Sunday evening to fly to Washington for a third time.
This is the apartment-hunting trip. Any natives or former residents of the city, with any last-minute advice, please chime in.
This is also where I apologize for not commenting on your posts, dear friends. I've just been so busy and stressed with the job interviews and all.
Today was indeed a very auspicious day. I love the people at my new job, am relieved about giving up the old one (and I know those last two weeks will be very difficult), and most of all excited about the new city and all the old friends there whom I miss so much.
Most of all I love my wife, Ms.
bunnyohare for being so brave and hard-working through this whole process.
The amount of excitement, fear, joy, adrenaline, crying, laughing, rollercoaster emotions is just killing me. Once we secure an apartment I will be able to more fully embrace the "joy" part.

Date: 2008-08-09 01:41 pm (UTC)The only advice I have to give from my househunting in DC is Chin Up :)
I ended up living on both ends of the red line (Bethesda and Silver Spring) and loved both, but I never actually lived in the District.
I'll keep fingers crossed for you!

Date: 2008-08-09 03:39 pm (UTC)You'll find that people tend to be Virginia people or Maryland people, and never the twain shall meet :)
Bethesda is Very Yuppie, I only could afford it there because I was rooming with someone. Silver Spring is much more down to earth.
Of course, I left DC in 94, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. Except for the VA/MD divide, I don't think that will ever change.

Date: 2008-08-10 02:31 am (UTC)If things get to rough the last two weeks on your job, since you already have a new one, couldn't you just quit, or would that be too unprofessional? :wonders:

Date: 2008-08-11 01:35 pm (UTC)And D.C. -- let's hope we get more Democrats in office there, and maybe it'll once again become a land of optimism. (instead of cronyism) PLUS: I've been waiting for an excuse to hop on Amtrak and head down there. Once you get settled in, William and I will have to come down for a visit.
Coolness!

Date: 2008-08-12 12:35 pm (UTC)You will be welcome to visit as long as you don't mind an air mattress or such ... sadly we do not currently own a second bed.
DC is a good place to visit for sure. It's not as glam as NYC, but there's still a lot to do.
I always look forward to seeing you and would love to meet William.
