U.S. World Cup team beats Canada
Oct. 12th, 2003 03:17 amA ray of sunshine after the defeat by Germany. In the over-used word of the commentators, "bittersweet" for the veteran older players who will probably not be returning for the next World Cup.
Feel free to use any of my World Cup LJ icons. They are fairly random and just from the last two U.S. matches. Cuz, I am lazy.

And it isn't really ticket sales that are at fault -- it is not that there is any lack of fans. It's that corporate America refuses to sponsor the league. The league's business plan has called for eight corporate sponsors, but that has dropped off to only two. Corporations are willing to sponsor many sports leagues through advertising, corporate giving, etc., but apparently not women's soccer. The WNBA does better, for some reason.
