Date: 2004-10-07 07:13 pm (UTC)I know a couple who met online; they knew they attended the same school, but had never met, and had only corresponded via email and also by chatting frequently on the Mainframe. One day, they were in a Mainframe talk session, sending messages back and forth to each other, as usual. In those days, our school was equipped with VT100 terminals (literal vt100 terminals, the actual hardware) and the like, and each time one would receive a message, the terminal would beep loudly. Of course, they started to notice that the beeping sounds from across the room corresponded to the time delay between the time each of them would send a message. Finally one of them got up, came over to the other, and introduced herself! They are still together and have a couple of kids.
