Being from a land-bound middle state, I grew up hearing about the wonders of real fresh seafood (no frozen fishsticks or lame red lonster which is all ypou can get in the midwest).

So when I stopped being a vegetarian after living here on the coast for seven or more years, I was es[ecially eager to try lots of seafood, and am still particularly fond of it.

Today I made Jamie Oliver's Mussels which were so yummy! Very Thai.

But I also burned my hand with chili pepper oil so I am typing with one hand, so this is all. Takes too long to type with one hand. Maybe time to try that voice recognition software.

Yes, it does feel better.

Here's the home remedy that saved me a trip to the emergency room (The United Health nurse was very helpful over the phone):

1.) Wash the skin in one part cold water, one part white vinegar. This helps neutralize the oils.

2.) Dry the skin thoroughly.

3.) Pour Maalox, Mylanta, or other liquid anatcid thingy on the skin. Let a layer stay on your skin. This will dry on your skin. By the time it has dried completely, it will have drawn out all the oils.

By the time the antacid stuff starts to smell like sour milk, it is time to wash it off.

Mind you, it took about an hour and a half for it to dry completely, and it still stung a lot before that time, so I thought it would not work, but it really, really worked. I was extremely relieved.
