Naughty puppets

Puppet sex too much for the MPAA; Matt and Trey forced to tone down the marionette naughtiness in order to get an R:

I keep thinking, maybe this is why only Angel was turned into one. If they had turned Spike as well, they wouldn't be allowed to air the episode at all for all the puppet sex. ;-)

Seriously, though, the MPAA is just daft. Even "A Dirty Shame" didn't really need an NC-17.

Angel 5.12 "You're Welcome"

When this first aired, lots of people really cried at the end. I didn't so much, and now Cordy's farewell seems so inevitable, too inevitable to make the tears come, especially in wake of what happened to Fred. So now I ask, who will be next? How much more before Angel wakes up and realizes he made a very bad decision that is quite responsible for all the heartache?

What a great episode. I imagine future episodes will really examine the important issues forced to the fore here. It really all comes down to Doyle's words, to remembering what it will really take for Angel and Co. to be heroes again, to understand that one cannot fight evil from within. The gang cannot hope to avoid moral bankruptcy while dwelling in the belly of the beast.

Our rat(e)s are low, but our standards are high. When the chips are down, and you're at the end of your rope, you need someone that you can count on. And that's what you'll find here. Someone who will go all the way, who'll protect you no matter what. So don't lose hope. Come on over to our offices and you'll see that there's still heroes in this world.

Glenn Quinn's accent and emotion do the words more justice than just printing them on a page.

On a different note, I really never understood some people's fascination with the gayness that is Angel/Lindsey, but finally now I do understand it. Dear heavens, how could I have missed it?

Angel 5.11 "Damage" (Plus a Wonderfalls note)

More back-reviews of older episodes, during this awfully long hiatus.

BTW, I didn't like Friday's Wonderfalls as much as the first two eps, but it was still a strong one, still funny and engaging.

I also just read that Fox went out of its way to tell the Wonderfalls crew "no lesbian kissing on-screen". What the BLEEP!?! Stupid homophobic network.

I'm not using a cut tag here because "Damage" aired quite a long time ago. Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] tannymonster and [livejournal.com profile] maryavatar and all who are not in the U.S. -- just squint yer eyes. :-!

---

Andrew in Season Seven said "You're barking up the wrong asparagus net".

Let's just apply that to Spike in this episode: part of his undoing was jumping to conclusions, barking up the wrong asparagus net, and getting caught.

But it all made for a very interesting scene with Angel at the end, which I really liked.

Question: do some stores really sell guns in the open like that? Whoa. Never seen that here on the east coast (although, vague memory of seeing such a thing at a Walmart in Colorado, they do love their stupid guns there).

Dana was such an interesting character, and it makes you think there must be other slayers like her, or with different but equally nasty situations that make their new powers take on rather un-anticipated twists.

Favorite funnies:

Spike and Angel emerging from separate elevators at the same time -- what a great shot set-up by the cinematographer there.

Andrew, of course. "He's alive, Mr. Frodo, he's alive!" and "Price, I see Mr. Giles may have been wrong about you" and of course "82% more manly ...", splat, scream. And so much Spike/Andrew slashiness as to be nearly overwhelming. And the little brown lunch bag and ridiculous suit. Oh, wait, and the taste of blood. He just HAD to lick that coin. Heh heh.

Spike/Angel snarkage.

Of course the best thing of all was seeing Andrew (and by extension Giles and Buffy) stand up to the W&H gang/Angel. The Fang Gang has really been barking up the wrong asparagus net all season, and Spike's horrible loss gave us a scary, Titanic-iceberg glimpse of just how much one can lose when going down a murky moral slippery slope.

Angel 5.15 "A Hole in the World"

I haven't reviewed an episode since 5.9 "Harm's Way", but rather than start at "Soul Purpose" where I left off, I'll start in the now with 5.15 and work my way backwards during that empty time in March when no Angel episodes will air.

First off, I agree with all of you that the WB is moronic because of their Angel-cancellation ways. Argh.

Second, Andrew being my favorite character, you know what my favorite ep. was lately, no need to become a drooling Andrew fan just now.

Angel 5.8 "Destiny"

Leonard Roberts, who played the horrid Forest in S4 of Buffy, was on Tru Calling tonight. His character was very different. Glad the actor and character aren't one and the same. Still a pretty badly written show, but the directing isn't too bad, and the sets and costumes are OK, and you all know the real reason I like to watch it anyway. ;-)

Angel 5.1 -- Late "Conviction" Thoughts

Late to the party, stupid digital cable, blah blah.

Anyway, I really liked what you had to say about the episode, [livejournal.com profile] keever.
